Crickets chirped as we sang. A few campers gathered and then faces appeared at the openings of tents, campers, and RVs listening. And coming closer.

“You’ve got to wise up. You’ve got to think twice. we sang in harmony as the crowd grew.

“I know a man, maybe you know him too…you never can tell it might even be you. He knelt at the altar and that was the end..He’s saved and that’s all that matters to him,” we girls sang in trio.

Crickets kept chirping as feet softly tromped on gravel past the lighted edges of our night time concert.

My teenage youth group did this every night for five nights, every summer for four years in the mountain campgrounds of North Carolina.

It was when my faith in Jesus Christ traveled from my heart to my hands, feet, and mouth.

I learned first hand that there are people who are going to die and go to hell because they do not know Jesus. There are people who do not know who Jesus is! I realized that I have a responsibility to tell others.

Mark 16:15-16
15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

I hear people who say they don’t want to go to this or that church because they are “not being fed.” Give me a break! As Jesus’ servants we must move from being babies drinking milk to feeding others.

John 21:15
[ Jesus Restores Peter ] So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”

I’ve heard some people to say they aren’t called to do anything. I don’t see how that is Biblical. That is taking your talent and hiding it in the ground! You may do something different from me but it will be something. You aren’t called to sit on your fanny! (Unless you are to pray!) Ask God where He wants you and do it!

In the March Missions Mosaic, Becky Wyatt talks about her Missions Fest experiences . She said her first missions trip wasn’t the best.

“‘I do believe it was in part because my heart was not in the right place.” Becky says in retrospect – she was looking to be fullfilled instead of fulfilling God’s plan.”

Wow!

1 Samuel 16:7
“…For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

It is in fulfilling God’s plan that we find fulfillment! Should you go to MissionsFest and FamilyFest this year (call 205-991-4097.)

Don’t forget your missions opportunity at home and volunteer in your church Vacation Bible School.

Each year, several tow headed kids with dirty feet and split up fingernails ask me to pray with them at VBS. It is a privalege that scares me to death and honors me beyond all hope of honor. To get to pray with children!

To watch their faces as the Holy Spirit illuminates their heart. To fear that “I’ve done something wrong” and then to realize that I was just a bystander as God wove the threads of eternity through the soul of another Child of God.

How will you go on mission this month? This summer? This year? You and I are both under orders from the Commander of God’s army! Will we be found faithful?

Lord, guide us to be on mission for You. Let us seek you and to fulfill your purpose for our lives. Let us be unselfish and unafraid as we depend on You for guidance. Forgive us for fearing the future. Forgive us for fearing Your will. Forgive us and help us be strong. Send your Holy Spirit on me and Your children reading this blog anew as we seek to follow You daily! In Jesus name. Amen!

  1. Good encouragement for missions, Vicki. Missions is the heartbeat of the church. We certainly need to stay focused on the goal. Teaching it to children is so important.

I took my two boys, ages 8 and 9, on a mission trip to West Virginia last summer. It really had a great impact. Now, anytime they have an opportunity to get involved in a missions project, they dive right in.

Also, keep me in your prayers as I am planning to go to Moldova with the GBC group in May.
