“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.” Romans 1:16
You are ashamed of the Gospel!
Could anyone say that to you or I?
- How about when I quietly do not comment on a topic — “don’t bring up religion or politics” Aunt Gertrude says! — afraid at someone taking offense.
- How about when I see someone is hurting and do not offer to pray with them?
One of the most meaningful moments of my life was one such incident. My little baby (now he’s four)– when he was about 11 months old aspirated a sunflower seed that an unknowing child gave him at a little league ballgame. We rushed him to a hospital in Atlanta and had to keep him awake all night but he could not drink or eat anything!
Through a night of (his) screaming and (my) agony — I was already a basket case. I had to take him to the surgery area and hand him to the nurse to take and have his little hands taped down, have him put to sleep and a tube put down his throat to clear out his lungs. That walk was the longest of my life — my little sweet baby went right to the nurse not knowing what was on the other side of the door…. but I did!
I went back to his room and wailed all alone. (I had asked my husband to give me a moment.) About 5-10 minutes later the nurse who prepped him knocked quietly and asked how I was. I was teary eyed and said I was OK. She came in turned off the TV and closed the door.
She said,
“I could lose my job for this but I feel led to ask you — do you want me to pray with you?”
I said not only Yes — but “YES PLEASE!”
I was in such agony I could not pray. She prayed all the words I wanted to say — all the pleadings I could not utter — I was in too much pain to even breathe. As she said Amen I felt a peace that God was going to handle it. She left quietly not knowing what she had done.
I sat down in the recliner chair and although I didn’t sleep — I rested. I quietly rested and prayed prayers of Thanksgiving as tears streamed down my cheeks. John was God’s to give and God’s to take away! God said he was giving Him back to me! I felt it in my very soul!
John came back and he was better than fine — in fact — they couldn’t find the seed that was blocking his lungs only 12 hours before ?!WHAT!?– they couldn’t explain it — he was perfect!
What if that nurse was afraid to pray? What is she was afraid to ask? What torment would I have felt!
Hebrews 10:30 says “But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed but of those who believe and are saved.”
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to those who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Cor 1:17-18
“For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.” 1 Cor 1:25
I cannot be ashamed. Many will have their love grow cold! Is yours?
Have you talked to Him today? Have you boldly lived your life for Him today?
It is not about beating people upside the head with the Bible — it is about living a good, quiet life honoring Him and taking advantage of the opportunities He places in our path each day!
Agree to pray with me for that one person in our life who is most difficult! Do not be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ! In a world of fear — be proud of the Saviour who died for you and I!
