God’s strength in GA’s tonight — through my weakness

Today has been a tough day — Wednesdays always are. Probably because one of the most worthwhile fruit-producing events of my week is Girls in Action. Tonight with my sister sick and another leader out because her husband shattered his leg — I was afraid. Nineteen girls! I thought maybe if I just don’t go it will handle itself — I want to crawl into my bed, cry, and go to sleep.

God orders my steps — my job was to place one foot in front of the other. His job was to be faithful to His promises!

I begged God to bless GA’s tonight! It wasn’t in me that’s for sure!

One of the favorite things that we do with the girls is what we call our “icebreaker.” We do it at the beginning of each day and it is always loud and very active. We find that after we do an icebreaker that the girls are willing to settle down. The icebreaker is always related to the lesson and it also usually involves the girls making sure they know each other’s names. (They come from many different schools and sometimes we think they know each other but they don’t.)

These ice breakers have turned GA’s into a little close knit group and we have slowly grown with a total enrollment of around 30. Tonight! I didn’t have it in me but then it hit me!

My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do!
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do!
The mountains are His, the rivers are His, the stars are His handiwork too!
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do!

What a message to me! We sang it regular, baby, and football player style. Then the girls sang pirate style from Camp Pinnacle. Then, they made up ballerina and opera style — so funny! How could I frown at that sight! How could I cry when all I could do was laugh!

The other message came as people came from nowhere to help — we usually have 5 total leaders (since we lost the one a few weeks a go) — tonight — we had seven. We were cleaned up and ready to go. It was fun, organized, missions learning chaos. It was productive, effective, and of course, just a touch chaotic.

God is more than able to accomplish what concerns me — and Him today!

I came so close to not going! I was in tears as I walked into church. I left with a blessing. Tired, but blessed and reminded that God is bigger than me — all he required was my faithfulness and sacrifice and He handled it ALL!

I came across a note tonight that I wrote my daughter.

“Susan is beautiful, smart and kind. Susan works hard, reads her Bible, and prays every day. But I don’t love Susan because of what she does, but just because Susan is my Susan – my daughter – I just love her because she is!!! I always love Susan!”

Substitute your name in it and read it out loud and imagine God telling you that. It feels good!

____ is beautiful, smart and kind. ___ works hard, reads her/his Bible, and prays every day.(?) But I don’t love ___ because of what she/he does, but just because ___ is my ____ – my daughter/son — I just love him/her because he/she is! I always love ___

Galatians 4:4 “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”

Psalm 8:7 “You called in trouble, and I delivered you.”

Lord, bless our Girls in Action leaders around the world. Encourage them and show them that there is a purpose in what we do. Show them that the ladies that they teach today will be winning souls tomorrow. Help us to be faithful workers who will study to show ourselves approved, rightly dividing the Word of God. Let us never treat our work as babysitting but know that we have a purpose in what we do. Please be with Derek Spain and the other missionaries who will be volunteering in the Olympics next month. Lord, we love you with all of our hearts. Forgive us when we want to stay home and pull the covers over our heads. Help us be strong, stick together, and love one another. I love you my Jesus, with all of my heart. Thank you for lovin me tenderly even in my extreme weakness and sin. I love you, Jesus. In Jesus name. Amen.
